Well, I understand how you feel.
Senrei tea is made from the same tea plant as Uji tea and Shizuoka tea.
The name of the tea produced here in Kamikawa Town is,
"Xianling Tea" was named about 300 years ago.
In 1716, the sixth head priest of Shorenji Temple in Kanzaki Awaga (present-day Awaga, Kamikawa Town), Joku, encouraged the surrounding farmers to cultivate tea, saying, "This land is perfect for tea cultivation!"
Some time passed, in 1725, the 10th year of the Kyoho era,
It is said that he received an original calligraphy piece (probably a hanging scroll) inscribed with the word "Senrei" from Prince Honkakuin, the 22nd head priest of Hokyoji Temple in Kyoto.
The writing is a bit formal, so to put it simply, during the time of Abarenbo Shogun, the head priest of a temple in Kamikawa told me, "This is a place for tea. Make it for me," so I worked hard to make one, and then the head priest of a very prestigious nunnery in Kyoto, who had excellent calligraphy, gave me a hanging scroll with the word "Senrei" (immortal spirit) written on it.
By the way, to give you an idea of how prestigious Hokyoji Temple is, the father of Honkakuinnomiya was Emperor Gosai. ...Emperor?!
The name given to him by such a distinguished person was "Senrei."
Most other branded teas are named after places, such as Uji tea, Sayama tea, Kawane tea, and Chiran tea.
And yet, a fairy spirit. A fairy spirit in Kamikawa Town. Aren't we trying to get a little too far away from civilization?
I don't think it's in a hurry.
But since it was given by a great person in the past, it's probably not a meaningless string of characters.
So I looked it up and found this:
A poet from the Tang Dynasty (and Tang! Over 1000 years ago!),
A poem written by Lu Tong (795?-835)
One bowl of throat lubrication, both bowls of agony
( The first cup of tea quenches the dryness of your throat and lips, the second cup makes your loneliness disappear.
Three bowls of dried up 5,000 volumes
( By the third cup, it has permeated your intestines and all you have is the knowledge you have learned.)
Four bowls of light sweating
(By the fourth drink, I'm sweating lightly, and my usual complaints are escaping from my pores.)
Five bowls of skin and bone cleansing
(The fifth cup will cleanse you from skin to bone.)
Six-Wan Passing Immortal Spirit
(After the sixth drink, you'll become like a sage)
Seven bowls of sake are not obtained. Only the clear wind can be seen from both sides. By the seventh cup, you no longer need to drink, and a refreshing breeze is born on both sides.)
I think it might be coming from here.
It must have been very tasty back then to have been given such a great name.
This is Senrei Tea, a name that is over 1,000 years old.
